Reticulated foam is a compressible, open cell, polyurethane ether foam used in a variety of filtering applications. It is commonly used as weep baffles in residential windows and commercial curtain wall and cladding applications. It weeps moisture and condensation from the building while minimizing the infiltration of air, moisture, insects, dust, etc. Weep baffles are commonly 30PPI (pores per inch). 10 and 20PPI are also available in limited thicknesses. A lower PPI means faster weeping action. Manufacturing tolerance is +or- 5PPI, which may result in slightly different appearance from lot to lot.
Standard (uncoated) reticulated foam is used inside extrusions/cavities where not exposed to UV/sunlight. Uncoated material will discolor and disintegrate over time. A coating is required if the foam is to be exposed to UV. H-O offers two UV-resistant coatings. PVC coating is widely specified by architects. An acrylic coating has recently been developed as an economical and more readily available alternative. Standard colors are black for PVC and dark gray for acrylic. For larger orders, acrylic may be available in other colors by special order (contact us for details). Both PVC and Acrylic coatings have been tested for UV-resistance in accordance with ASTM G 154.
